Mr. Johnson Henson's Recognition
Written By Mrs. Evelyn Hart in Honor of Mr. Johnson Henson:
George Johnson Henson
George Johnson Henson, better known as Johnson or Mr. Johnson, to most of us, joined the Buena Vista United Methodist Church on August 13, 1950, on profession of faith when Brother Robert J. Padgett was Pastor. He has been a very faithful and devoted member for nearly 61 years. His presence is felt nearly every Sunday morning in our Jo Wight’s 10 after 10 Sunday school class, when he begins our class by sharing with us his wonderful devotionals from a book given to him by one of his grandsons. His life in every way shows his deep and abiding faith in God.
Mr. Johnson was born June 17, 1924 to Myrtle and Waymon Henson in Benton, Tennessee. With the death of his sister recently, he is now the last one living of the seven children born in his family. There is a well-known saying that behind every great man there is a great woman. Mr. Johnson is definitely no exception. His devoted wife, Barbara, has been his helpmate for a total of sixty-three years this May, 5th. They have two lovely daughters, Dianne and Elaine, two fine son-in-laws, Grey Murray and Scott McGarrah, 6 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren with another one due next week.
Mr. Johnson’s devotion to and love of God, his church, his family, and his community are an example of what a true Christian’s life should be. So tonight, Mr. Johnson, each one of us say “thank you” for what you have done for our church and for a job well done.
